Multiply cuttings - how it works!

Anyone can propagate cuttings. You just have to follow our little tips, then growing new plants will work just fine.

When everything blooms profusely in the summer, the best time is to multiply the existing plants. So you don't have to buy anything new in the next season and always have a small flower gift ready. At first glance, it may sound complicated, but it is not. You only need a few accessories and a little patience, then it also works with the propagation of the cuttings.

Multiply cuttings - step by step instructions

Before you start, have the following things ready: sharp pruning shears, flower pots, growing soil, plastic bags.

Step 1

Pick a shoot on the plant that is not blooming. Annual shoots are best because they have more strength than older shoots. Young shoots that are too young are not suitable because they are still too soft and moist in the stem and could mold quickly. Cut the selected shoot at about 6 to 8 cm (about the length of a finger).

" Important: The secateurs must be sharp so that the shoot is not squashed.

Step 2

Now remove all of the lower leaves. These must not be planted because they will rot and deprive the soil of the power that the cutting needs to grow.

Step 3

The cut cuttings are now put into the prepared, slightly damp, growing soil. Make sure here that you insert the cutting only so deep that no leaves are planted.

Step 4

In the fourth step, we build a kind of mini greenhouse. Place the pot with the cuttings in a sufficiently large plastic bag, with the opening facing up. This bag must not be closed completely, otherwise too much moisture will form and the cuttings will start to mold very easily.

Step 5

Always keep your cuttings nice and moist and make sure that the cuttings get enough oxygen. After a few days you will be able to observe the first roots and your cuttings have succeeded.
